Cornish-based artist Nadine de Villiers Kuun’s flourishing portfolio of contemporary paintings continues to enhance her growing reputation as one of North Cornwall’s most exciting talents. Coming from a background in art and design, and fuelled by her childhood passion for painting and drawing, her work captures the essence of the rugged Cornish coast while still touching on the subtle beauty and history of its hidden colour and detail.
Nadine’s work is based around a variety of media and techniques. “No single medium could ever do justice to the inspirational Cornish surroundings,” she says “and that’s why I have worked with pastels, water colours, acrylics and oils to try to capture the changing beauty and quality of light I see every day. To breathe the air in Cornwall is to be constantly inspired, and I try to reflect that in my paintings, and capture the atmosphere and feeling of a particular place.”
Nadine is planning her first solo exhibition for 2011 and firmly believes it will be just an early chapter in a life-long process of learning her craft. “My work is constantly evolving,” she says “and I always strive to push myself forward, to better communicate what I see. Cornwall is built on dramatic locations and scenes, and I want to evoke that feeling that you could almost be there.”
